Exercises for Improved Memory

From losing your keys to forgetting appointments, at one point or another we all wonder if our brain is slipping. Instead of growing old gracefully, there are plenty of activities you can do to increase your brain activity and function. Mental exercises such as coordination moves can boost your memory and can strengthen neural connections, as well as form new connections. Although taking up a new task or trying unfamiliar exercises may seem daunting at first, repeated effort will pay off.

Simple coordination based exercises not only improve your coordination but they can also improve your brain function and learning. Mind and body are connected and brain exercises and physical coordination moves benefit the brain function, memory, and mental fitness.

There are indications that major nervous system development and organization continues throughout life. Exercises that require coordination activate the cerebellum, which is located at the back of the brain and enhances thinking, cognitive flexibility, and processing speed. The cerebellum is also linked to the prefrontal cortex, where judgment and decision-making occur. This means that participating in activities that require coordination can make you smarter and give you better self-control.
